A nice day-sail from Slidell gets you to New Orleans. If you haven't seen the city of New Orleans from the lake, it's an experience to add to your local bucket list.
The New Orleans lakefront is an often overlooked experience. West End is the home of a number of lively bars and restaurants where we can tie up the boat and enjoy great seafood and views. Perhaps soon, a reopened Pontartrain Beach will feature an anchorage from where we can visit plazas, walkways, swim areas, and performance attractions.
On the North shore of the lake, the town of Mandeville features a beautiful sea wall. From there, it's an easy walk to playgrounds, the Pontchartrain Yacht Club, and several great places to eat, drink, or shop.
Across the Causeway on the North Shore is the Tchefuncte River. The mouth of the river features a historic lighthouse. Further upriver is the town of Madisonville, with another seawall that gives access to unique attractions. Across the river from the town is the beautiful Fairview-Riverside State Park.
There is no shortage of wonderful attractions throughout the lake.
